Mountain Area Preservation seeks to protect open space in two ways:
- Within the Truckee-Tahoe region, we are working to create more open space, parks and public gathering places that are linked by readily accessible pedestrian paths and bikeways.
- On a regional level, our efforts are focused on protecting biologically sensitive land for the benefits of wildlife, watershed management and passive recreation like bicycling or hiking. Unlike our local land trust, we do not purchase land. Rather, we create opportunities for open space acquisitions by working with property owners, developers, local residents, skilled biologists and land use planners to identify the location of these biologically sensitive lands and assure they are not lost to development.
